Secondary Organic Aerosol (SOA) Markers Detected in a Mount Elbrus Ice Core

GB/NERC/BAS/PDC/02255

Abstract:
This dataset consists of a single CSV file containing the following organic marker concentrations: 2-methylerythritol, 2-methylglyceric acid, keto-pinic acid, pinic acid, cis-pinonic acid, 3-MBTCA, pinolic acid, cis-norpinonic acid, and nopinone. Concentrations of SOA markers detected in an ice core drilled from Mount Elbrus in 2020. The top 82 m of the core (707-2011 CE) was analysed utilising HPLC-MS. Quantified SOA markers have been utilised as proxies in Bushrod-Hicks, E. E., et al., 2026 to reconstruct land use change in Europe and the Mediterranean in response to historical events and climate changes.

This work was funded by a Leverhulme Grant: RPG-2024-362. Equipment used in this study was purchased with support from the University of Cambridge Yusuf Hamied fund. Work completed by Emilia E. Bushrod-Hicks was funded by an EPSRC DTP (grant reference number: EP/R513180/1) and a studentship awarded by the University of Cambridge Philosophical Society. The field team which recovered the Elbrus ice core were in the frame of RSF-25-17-00070.
