Daily modelled surface melt of Isunguata Sermia, West Greenland from 2022 to 2024
GB/NERC/BAS/PDC/02192
Abstract:
This dataset includes modelled surface melt, and runoff estimates for Isunguata Sermia, a land-terminating outlet glacier in West Greenland, from August 2022 to September 2024. We use the Coupled snowpack and ice surface energy and mass balance model in python (COSIPY; Sauter et al., 2020) forced by extrapolated observations from the PROMICE KAN_L automatic weather station (Fausto et al., 2021) and modelled precipitation from the ECMWF Reanalysis v5-Land (ERA5-Land; Munoz-Sabater et al., 2021). Air temperature from KAN_L are extrapolated using a constant lapse rate to obtain spatially distributed daily modelled surface melt over the tongue of Isunguata Sermia.
This research was funded by NERC standard grant NE/X000257/1.

| Quality: | Uncertainties in PROMICE automatic weather station variables are detailed in Fausto et al., (2021). Modelled surface melt values are estimates only and subject to various uncertainties in model forcing, parameters and methodological choices. | |
| Lineage/Methodology: | This dataset contains modelled surface melt estimates obtained using the Coupled snowpack and ice surface energy and mass balance model in python (COSIPY V1.3; Sauter et al., 2020). Observations from PROMICE KAN_L automatic weather station (Fausto et al., 2021), and modelled precipitation from ECMWF Reanalysis v5 (ERA5) were used to force the COSIPY model to obtain hourly surface melt and runoff estimates. Air temperature from KAN_L were extrapolated using a constant lapse rate to obtain spatially distributed modelled surface melt over the tongue of Isunguata Sermia. Air pressure was corrected using the barometric equation. Model ran on 2024-10-01. Modelled outputs are daily from 2022-08-01 to 2024-09-20.Spatial resolution of approximately 200 by 200 metres. |
