Abstract:
The dataset comprises ApRES (Autonomous phase-sensitive Radio Echo Sounder) time series from a site (S0815) located on the southern Ronne Ice Shelf. The instrument was deployed in early 2016 as part of the Filchner Ice Shelf System (FISS) project. The aim was to provide time series of basal melt rates and the vertical strain rate.

| Lineage/Methodology: | The data were collected using standard ApRES methodology with instrument configuration described in data headers. The radar bandwidth was 200 MHz, centred on 300 MHz with a 1-second chirp length at a nominal power of 20 dBm. Bursts of 30 chirps were collected at 2-hourly intervals (nominal). The acquired ApRES DAT files were losslessly converted to netCDF files using apres_to_nc from the bas-apres Python package. | |
